It was a genocide, but religion was not the driving factor. The Balkan nations had been killing off and expelling their Muslim populations and Turkey needed somewhere for them to go, so they killed off the Armenians for their land. Forced conversion were done on survivors, more so to destroy the Armenian identity. Muslims have been destorying nations for over a thousand years. Persia became muslim Iran. The Byzantine empire became Turkey. The Islamization of Egypt, Afghanistan, Indonesia etc. No more than other empire or religion.

The Armenian genocide wasn't forgotten, no matter how Turkey wants it so. The grandparents of the recent New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian, were Armenian refugees from that event. It is remembered.

One can easily argue the Manifest Destiny was a genocide. As was Australias assimilation policy of the early 20th C, illustrated in the film Rabbit Proof Fence. And ya even tried to wipe out the Emus but you lost that one. :P
