If fruit needs picking, or fish needs fishing, why do business owners not pick these "products" if this means garunteed sales and growth?
etc. etc/.
Thanks.

It is a law.
Whenever fruit or such needs picking farmers are legally required to moan piteously because they can't get staff to do it for sod an hour paid late. In 55 and 54 BC Caesar brought his legions over to help with the hop picking, but the wages we so bad that the Roman squaddies left and refused to return for another hundred years

UK business model = taking bribes from multinationals, including agribusiness, with the object of reducing regulations, eliminating the merest hint of competition and shafting the consumers. In the particular case of farmers, the thick bastards voted for Brexit, thereby losing both their workforce and the subsidies keeping them afloat. So I struggle manfully to care.
And fail.

No one probably benefitted more than farmers from the EU so their traditional right wing Tory position made no sense with Brexit. Mind you the NFU which only ever has the interests of the large farming interests at heart were pushing it, too.
