I'd run to Walmart or Home Depot and fork over the $200 just to get a basic window unit and stave off the heat a little bit in the meantime
I’m a renter, so the landlord has to fix it, get me temporary unit, or put me in hotel. I’ve already spent a week in one when a pipe burst upstairs and flooded my apartment. The ceiling collapsed and poured out like Niagara Falls. I think the apartment management company is only required to fix it if it's central air. And however your lease is worded. If it's a wall unit. It's one you.

It will be 112 degrees for the next 3 days, a seer 18 central air conditioning system can't keep up with that. So I also have to have a 1200 BTU window air conditioner to supplement that during the hottest part of the day.
From 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM, which brings the temperature in the house down to 75 degrees.

Homeowners with central AC, don't forget to periodically clean the condenser and evaporator coils. It's an easy DIY job either with just water from the hose (not too much pressure) or with spray-on coil cleaner foam (about $10-$15 can) which you then rinse off with water. It makes a huge difference, AC runs more efficient and saves money, and it extends the life of your AC.
