Watching for the first time… and giving up after episode one.
First, who needs a legacy Hawkeye? I had underestimated just how little screen time original Hawkeye has. And I don’t give a damn about the new one.
Second, Kate has very little character development or personality. And it’s very difficult to get invested in her story- despite the apparent villain being played by the awesome Tony Dalton. She can also somehow fight like a damn ninja despite any reason given for it. Which is just completely stupid.
Third, it’s just a really uninteresting dull premise with no reason to care. Absolute filler. Maybe it gets better but it’s already completely lost me.

So what you're saying is...they should do a Young Avengers movie instead?

And you made that very easy.

Hawkeye was one of the better D+ MCU shows in my opinion, but that's also because most of the D+ MCU shows were pretty crap. So not exactly a high bar to be better than average. Hawkeye improves greatly once Yelena joins the team.
I did appreciate that Kate was not depicted as a Mary Sue, so that's a plus.

Hawkeye was shockingly awesome. Loved it. Plan on watching it around Christmas.

But Kate defeating a gang with the fighting skills of a ninja (despite, as far as I know, not being trained in fighting skills) seemed very Mary Sue-ish to me.

IIRC, there were multiple hints shown in the episodes about how Kate has been training in martial arts and archery since she was a kid and has won multiple competitions. Granted that's usually not enough to defeat an entire gang on your own in the real world, but it's a better explanation than given to most modern femme fatales. A lot of modern female leads can just beat up guys with zero explanation to their skillset. So we at least know where she got her skills, and later on in the show she does mess up and bungle things quite a bit.

"Shockingly awesome" is much too high a praise I think. The best I could say about it was "pleasantly surprised", and that's mostly because my expectations for this show were really low after seeing the previous D+ outings. I had more fun with it than I expected but I'm nowhere near to loving it.

At what point does it become shockingly awesome? I know that sounds sarcastic (because it kind of is! ). But I’m also genuinely asking, because I may give it another chance before my subscription is up.

But the fight in the wine cellar still felt like classic Mary Sue stuff for me. And honestly, it’s just always dumb to see a tiny teenage girl beat up multiple grown men. It’s just awkwardly unrealistic. Obviously I’m aware this is a comic book show but still. I’ll accept her arrowing the baddies, but the masterful ninja stuff lost me.
