Participating in a Q&A at ComunidadeCulturaearte (via WGTC), the 87-year-old was asked about his take on Marvel movies: “I’m only theoretically fed up with Marvel movies because I’ve never seen any. I don’t like those budgets, it’s an industry that has nothing to do with cinema as an art form.”

Woody Allen has been the perpetual child for so long and that still hasn't changed regardless of his MCU budget complaints.

When has he had the time? He made a movie every year from 1977 to 2020. And probably in total, spent less than one Marvel movie.

I can respect the fact Allen admits to not seeing them.
I'm not a fan of romantic comedies. I'd rather sit in a park alone than watch Failure to Launch starring Sara Jessica Parker and Matthew McConaughey, or Love Actually. But I don't write them off as not cinema. It's not right.
Scorsese will always be one of the greatest ever filmmakers, but he's on the wrong side on this one. Not liking superhero movies is one thing, but saying they're not cinema is the peanut gallery talking. What constitutes a superhero movie is still being defined. Fans and critics alike of Joker (2019) don't even agree on what type of movie it is. Under the radar flicks like Fast Color (2018) get lost in the shuffle despite its ethos of the power of black women.
I empathize deeply with elder directors being phased out, but their beef is with the studio heads chasing their tails for profits (and ageism, while we're at it).

They're just lucky we don't resort to casting them adrift on an iceberg.
