She's popular among the Tory membership though who see her as Thatcher's Second Coming. Sunak couldn't beat her in a straight popularity competition. Sunak couldn't beat her or Mordaunt or anyone in a straight fight with the Conservative Party members voting, just the wrong skin colour. That's why Truss and her Daily Mail supporters set out to destroy Mordaunt from day 1, they knew if they beat her they would win. Never really considered that aspect but I'd be lying if I said I understood the mindset of a Tory.

You are utterly delusional. Still, it was the "establishment" wot dun it. I think I am being quite rational actually. If you want to revive the economy and encourage growth and investment, you need to cut taxes, at least from the all-time post-war high where they currently stand. Trying to stifle debate by calling people who say this 'delusional' is not a viable option to get the economy working again.
(Edit) nor are silly comments that party members didn't vote for Sunak because he wasn't white. Can't we just have a grown-up discussion about this? Sunak lost popularity because of his wife's non-dom status and that piece of spin-doctoring fakery showing him pretending to fill up his small family saloon (which turned out to have been borrowed from somebody else). Also because he was too closely associated with Boris Johnson and implicated in the partygate scandal.

Never really considered that aspect but I'd be lying if I said I understood the mindset of a Tory. It's why, more and more the Conservatives try and create a "coronation" rather than put 2 people to the blue rinse brigade. They know they may well not get the logical best choice.
