I dunno about that. The USA has a lower marriage rate than those countries mentioned so per marriage, it does seem to be higher. It's probably because we have laws that overwhelmingly favor the females in divorces, that give her the house, the kids, and a stipend from her husband. I'm all for making people responsible, but it totally goes way too far. |

you mean 'child support'? and/or alimony. child support is your duty as a parent to provide support for your child. period. alimony is on a case by case basis and not always awarded, but you provide the perfect argument for why women shouldn't be stay at home moms. If the marriage fails, they will have to re-enter the workforce, after having been out of the workforce for a while and missing out on experience, promotions, seniority, and income. Now, she has to rely on an ex-husband who will lord it over her that she is dependent on him. When you finally do actually get married, keep that in mind. If you ask your wife to be a stay at home mom, and the marriage doesn't work out, she made career sacrifices to do that for your family and you should be prepared to pay alimony as a result. |

I would say it's an indication of a modern society where people don't have to live the rest of their lives in misery, and can get divorced.
I'm betting the countries with low divorce rates are oppressive and ass-backwards.
