Do you think the Democrats should shut down the federal government if they don't get what they want?
Why not? The Republicans did it when Obama was President.
Equal rights and abilities for all Americans right --- Republicans, Democrats, liberals, conservatives, etc?

Sure. But with conditions. All "non-essential" workers who get furloughed don't come back. Ever. They are "non-essential."

Probably doesn’t look good to withhold regular benefits for Americans if they can’t get special benefits for illegals.

Of course they should. About time they grew some and played hardball like the Republicans have been doing. Besides which this kind of blackmail hasn't proven to be an electoral disaster before.

Our government has grown massive in size and scope, but it will never be enough for the “compromised”.

Once again, Democrats are willing to compromise. And certain Republicans want everything or nothing. What, exactly, are you talking about? Have you followed the specific positions of each side on this standoff? The Democrats want DACA, and they feel like they are in a good position to demand it and give nothing in return. The GOP would (and eventually will) give them DACA - almost everybody involved wants it - but expect some kind of compromise (ie a few scraps of border wall funding), but the Dems will not give it (at least not as of the last time I heard any news. Again, please offer your specifics in today's crisis of where the Democrats are willing to compromise but are being rebuffed.

Wasn't EL Chapo's drug money enough to fund the wall?

The Democrats said they will give the Republicans their stupid wall which the Democrats are against. If the Republicans give them DACA. Many Republicans said okay. But some Republicans --- the freedom caucus --- said no, "We want everything we want. And we don't want to give the Democrats anything. All or nothing." Just like the Tea Party. Some Republicans don't understand politics or the history of America.

No, because all of our politicians should agree that immigration law should be enforced. None whatsoever should be willing to refuse to approve spending to try and secure their legal status.
Just FTR Id be fine if the 800,000 or so DACA recipients got legal status in exchange for a border wall, and end to chain migration and the diversity lottery, and more immigration judges and a streamlined deportation process.
