A white guy shot and killed a black guy in Gretna, Louisiana, a suburb of New Orleans. Black guy is a local football star who played in the NFL. Both were involved in road rage incident leading up to shooting. White guy claims black guy drove up on the shoulder of the road to trap him in traffic, threatened him verbally, got out of his car and entered white guy's car. White guy claims it was self-defense. Police let white guy go home the night of the shooting. But were later pressured by black community to arrest and charge white guy. www.nola.com/crime/index.ssf/2018/01/gasser_trial_starts_mcknight.html

I'm curious how this turns out - please post of you see the verdict reported.
I think he'll be acquitted due to lack of definitive evidence.

We even had a black political analyst say on TV, "If the jury follows the law, he should be acquitted." But you never know with a jury. The sheriff said (we have sheriffs down here) "What Gasser (the white guy) said didn't match the evidence." But still, they let Gasser go home, until the blacks (and SJWs) complained.

No, it has everything to do with race. If both guys were white or black, consensus says no arrest would have been made.

Especially if the black guys car was indeed blocking the white guy from driving away. I hope he is acquitted. Too bad he'll be up to his eyeballs in debt from legal fees.

That is what all clear thinking people say also. But the black community and the SJWs insisted he be arrested. As far as legal fees go, this guy was involved in another road rage incident that occurred at the same intersection. He allegedly got out his car and beat up another motorist. I drove a truck local pickup and delivery for twenty years. Now I have my own business and I drive around all day providing service to my customers. I have never had anything like this happen to me. I get the impression this white guy (Ronald Gasser) is just a hot head looking for trouble. If that is correct, he found it --- again. In that case, he has no one to blame but himself for his troubles. He needs to learn to cool out and be more tolerant of others.

To me what happened 10 year ago doesn't matter if the facts in the 2016 are a) McKnight blocked Gasser from leaving and b) McKnight got into Gasser's car. Now the white guy's past would definitely matter if we couldn't establish the aforementioned a and b. But as far as I'm concerned, I don't care if you've murdered 100 people, you still have a right to reasonable self-defense. If someone pulls their car in front of you and prevents you from fleeing, then enters your car, you have every right to make them spring a leak.

Gasser's prior criminal history is inadmissible. But I was responding to your comment that, "Too bad he will be up to his eyeballs in legal fees." (Or something like that.) His legal fees maybe a result of his propensity to handle disagreements with other drivers violently. Nobody disagrees that both Gasser and McKnight were acting foolishly. To play chicken, angrily interact and threaten each other all the way from the GNO bridge to the corner of Behrman Hwy and Holmes is ridiculous. Not to mention the other drivers they endangered. "Okay we get it, he cut you off. Let it go already." I wouldn't be surprised if Gasser is one of those people who think they own the road. And nobody has the right to drive in front of them.

If both guys were white or black, consensus says no arrest would have been made. Maybe it has changed but when I first heard the story I didn't see anything racially motivated about the incident. I just saw 2 guys involved in a road rage incident. Some seem to just have made it about race same as the young muslim woman some tried to make in to a hate crime when it was not.

I think a problem they'll find here and whether it's ruled as total self-defense is determining whether the dead person was armed or not. If not then I'm slightly puzzled that the other guy's reaction to being yelled at was to open fire. I'm also slightly dubious of the idea he was trapped with no chance of escape here. Has anyone got an image of this intersection?
Also the crime doesn't fit for me. He's being tried for second degree murder? That doesn't make a lot of sense given the circumstances unless Glasser is outright lying about the incident. This seems like voluntary manslaughter not murder.

But the black community and the SJWs insisted he be arrested. So the police chief caved and Gasser got arrested.

No. The law says if somebody enters your car in a threatening manner, you have the right to use deadly force. Just like your house. Gasser said McKnight leaned into his car. McKnight's blood was found inside Gasser's car. Leading police to believe it was lawful self-defense. And Louisiana is a stand your ground state. No lawful requirement to flee a threat.

The problem the community here and around the U.S. is that people are constantly crying Race crime every time 2 people are from different ethnic backgrounds. What it shows is that it is they themselves who are likely racist. If they don't stop constantly crying out like this it will ultimately become like the boy who cried Wolf. People will get fed up.
