Most nights, around midnight, I leave a bit of grub out for the local urban foxes, just inside the gate, in a takeaway container or supermarket plastic tray-container; out of date pork pies, scotch eggs, general leftovers sometimes - or if they're lucky one or two cooked chicken legs with the meat sliced off for them or some ham that's nearing its use by date. Whatever I leave it is always gone in the morning without fail. But if I left the above 'grub' out for them nothing would surprise me less if it was still there in the morning. And foxes will eat anything, almost. Sorry, but that meal looks lamentable when compared to a proper fish and chips serving. The battered thing looks like it could be a pig's trotter. It's all about a crisp crunchy batter, firm golden chips and the ability to tell a saveloy from a plain sausage which with the above pic is not immediately manageable. I think it's a sausage as it isn't pinched at the ends as a saveloy would be, but it's close. How much is a portion of good fish and chips where you are, Fong? How about where you are, Ice Cold? I've got a feeling you can't get it for less than a tenner anywhere in the UK now.

He’ll probably be a bit annoyed though when I tell him I don’t actually want one! Do you ever see your foxes?

Do you ever see your foxes? I'll sometimes see them when I'm coming home late-ish (11pm) They'll be lurking along the street or furtively exiting someone's front garden having foraged it for grub.

Yeah, I’ve seen foxes at night in Edinburgh too. They occasionally sleep on my lawn during the summer. They’re getting quite bold in London and I’ll see at least one a week wandering around the back streets like they own the place. I forgot to say that’s during daylight hours.

Forgot to ask at the chippy about the price of a fish supper.
I’ll pop in just before closing time tonight.
I usually do that anyway and ask them “Do you have any chips left?” and when they say “Yes” I like to yell “Serves you right for making too many” as I run out!
