the virus or man-made route? Radiation from a comet, a virus made by the military or a corporation, or something along those lines.
I've always preferred the idea of the dead rising. That's way more scary than someone twirling their mustache and doing this on purpose. The implied idea of something apocalyptic or biblical. Non-scientific is my point.

ParaNorman (2012) did something unscientific with it.

They are actually two genres, both invented as we know them by George Romero; Night of the Living Dead (zombies) and Crazies (infected humans).

Separate conversation, but oddly enough both of those examples are the "created" type of monster: radiation and a virus. I understand what you are saying. Not all cannibalistic mindless murderers are zombies. That's not my point though.

I know, I was just making the point that audiences would want to know where zombies came from. Or perhaps that's just filmmakers wanting to give some origin to them to have some background and not seem, for a lack of a better term, generic. Besides, being unexplainable didn't last very long for the 'gentleman' in my profile pic, even in the new trilogy.

Many include it in the zombie genre even though it's not technically zombies. I think the two genres are closely related and it doesn't bother me if someone lumps them together. As for actual zombies, walking dead, ghouls, I prefer no explanation at all.

They would rather have a bad or even nonsensical explanation than a mystery. I prefer the mystery.

Why would audiences want to know where zombies came from but accept no explanation for Michael or Jason?
There's no concrete explanation for Michael. Just theories.

I like the idea of the dead rising. No virus or known cause. I am ok with both, just think they lean too much into the virus or natural disaster type cause.
