There’s plenty of bloody pictures out there but I thought I’d try keeping this thread uncontroversial. There’s only been one good film based around rugby and that was made back in 1963. Great movie. And I looked at gruesome footage twice. Looks like an accident to me and I’ve seen a lot TV and live hockey in my life. That Petgrave plays too dirty is beside the point. It can happen to any of them and they all know it before they hit the ice. Thems the breaks of sport. Part of this young tragedy was of his making. It’s like when people are shocked when a high-wire walker falls to his death. Unless the inquiry proves otherwise, Adam Johnson is not a victim of a crime. Who else has lifted their leg then donkey kicked their skate blade at another player's neck? In the millions of ice hockey scrimmages and games, ever, who else has this "happened to"?

I didn’t see a “donkey kick.” He was airborne and Johnson skated into his skates. And a neck shield would have saved him. Perhaps the partner should also sue the league for not requiring them. Also, they’ll need to review Petgrave’s contract to see if he was hired as an enforcer.

Apparently posters here have never even skated. There is no reason for feet to ever be above knee level while skating unless you are high-level figure skating or trying to kick someone. Those are the only two reasons as having a leg that high makes you unbalanced. This guy was trying to kick him with a blade on his foot. He should be charged with first degree murder.

I wonder why they an animal to describe Petgrave’s force of gravity in body checking the man he didn’t kill.

That is not remotely what happened. Petgrave, with his leg already high, drew his leg in then kicked it back out as he skated toward Johnson. I posted the panned out slow motion iteration of the video which I could reference right now if you weren't so insanely obsessed with race that you started screaming about lynchings and other insanity that has nothing to do with a fucking maniac kicking his skate blade into a man's neck.

It did look like he kicked out when his legs were in the air. Did he kick out intentionally? If so, how did he see Johnson behind him? And if murder was intention, how did he know to place his blade in the sweet spot between all that body protection? Petgrave is wearing a helmet which limits his peripheral vision. Also they cannot turn their necks as much. This rush to condemn the only black man in Brit pro hockey, that I know of, as cold blooded killer of an innocent hockey player is quite telling. This is why I called the other thread a lynching…or perhaps a high tech-lynching.

He’s off the ice forvgood, regardless of the inquiry’s outcome. This reaction by the righties is right out of 1958. Willie O'Ree [the Jackie Robinson of the NHL 1958] faced racial taunts throughout his hockey career, including in the NHL, especially in the United States. [11] He noted that racist remarks were much worse in the U.S. cities than in Toronto and Montreal, the two Canadian cities hosting NHL teams at the time, and that "Fans would yell, 'Go back to the South' and 'How come you're not picking cotton?' Things like that. It didn't bother me. I just wanted to be a hockey player, and if they couldn't accept that fact, that was their problem, not mine."[12] wikip Second black player NHL 1974. What the fuck are you talking about? I had the 2nd guys Hockey Card when I was young. I think his name was Mike Marsons.

Who else has lifted their leg then donkey kicked their skate blade at another player's neck? In the millions of ice hockey scrimmages and games, ever, who else has this "happened to"? Richard Zednik. That was an actual "donkey kick" too. His teammate's foot swung up backwards after he lost balance and hit Zednick in the neck, slitting it open. Believe it or not, you don't have traction on ice. If you lose your poise or get tripped up, your legs can swing upwards out from under you. Of course, that's not why this claim is gaining internet traction, is it now? It's because the guy who collided with him is black.

I don't know about degree or manslaughter or what, but it's some form of homicide. Even involuntary manslaughter is a category of homicide under the law. And honestly, you're being generous. I didn't see signs of imbalance until after he hit Johnson's neck with his skate. His right foot skate didn't even leave the ice 'til he kicked his left foot so high his whole body lifted up and you can see him making that move off the ice; it's defo not something that happened to Petgrave like Ms Hockey Thread Manager would make it seem. If she e-yells enough maybe she'll undo the reality of every crime, ever.

Thinks it's more a case of being an incredibly stupid sport than anything sinister but that's a conclusion the investigations will have to decide. Surprised more hockey players haven't died.

Don't panic. He'll get away with it.
