I'd say the modern meaning of teat is the nipple on mammals, for example a cow.
A tit can mean everything from a negative word in women to the whole breasts on humans.

Perhaps it's because I know what the name means (Day Hammer Shield) and it's misspelled BTW. But I don't see how it can mean anything else in English.
