Yeah, I was 24 in 1984, and Like A Virgin was playing everywhere, from the radio, to the record shops to the department stores it blared out daily. Good song I guess, but it wasn't until Reservoir Dogs was released in 1992 that I finally understand what it was about. So you are my age? I was headbanging at that time.

I turned 63 in February, I had noticed you were around the same age as me merh. I was headbanging at that time. I've been a lot of things and loved all sorts of music in my life, but I ain't never been a headbanger. I've listened to some of the music, though. Did this music help you let off steam and work out your anger? What drew you to this form of heavy metal music, which, if I'm not mistaken, you are still fond of, at least in that you tend to speak of it fondly when you speak of it on these threads.

Iggy Pop, now there's a blast from the past.

I turned 63 in February, I had noticed you were around the same age as me merh. So also 1960. Gemini. I always felt it was wrong to get lumped in with baby boomers. Like they cut that segment too large & I had nothing in common with the average boomer. I replied last night, but the site ate the damned post again so I figured to hell with it. So I am editing this in pieces. music/heavy-metal-and-classical-music-have-more-in-common-than-you-think-1.5262655I grew up with mom playing a stack of records on the player. Show tunes. Country western, but this was the 60s so not the new stuff. Johnny Cash. Tennessee Ernie Ford. Debbie Reynolds. Country radio. In the 70s we were in Utah so the radio was pop/soft rock. Elton John. Jim Croce. Bread. Olivia Newton John. But I have always been into fantasy. Sci-fi & horror. I had a couple pen pals into Dark Shadows. One was into music as well, but Queen, Alice Cooper & Abba(one of the singers looked similar to John Karlen who played Willie Loomis on Dark Shadows) So yeah. Cathartic. Ever read Alice's lyrics? They are often amazing word plays, at least the 70s stuff.

So I'm assuming we've all given up. This is now soapbox, with some politics sprinkled in..
Front page 2 movie nights Something about inheritance Die hard routine that got old 3 years ago What we wanna watch Some kind of board party Something about Christians After that; some politics sprinkled in.
Can we just name this board to: Soapbox with some politics and never ending drama and insults!
That's what it is now

So I'm assuming we've all given up. Pretty much. We're just hanging out here. Everything sucks and this helps pass the time until the inevitable end of civilization as we know it. I think it's going to be robots. It's only a matter of time before Starlink becomes self-aware like Skynet, or Elon Musk's fuckery with brain chips in chimps goes horribly wrong. Two tears in a bucket...fuck it.

“It starts and ends here. This thread will die, and I'll disappear. This is the swan song.”
“If things calm down, we get reasonable debates, yes. If this keeps going down the path of soapbox v2, I'm out. I stand by my words. ”
