It is good for both your car's (motor vehicle's) AC system and home's AC system to run them during the winter. Running your AC systems once, twice, or three times during the winter months will help keep your compressors lubricated so they run more efficiently during the summer. (More than three times a winter seems unnecessary. Once every two months should be enough. Wait for a warm day for your house. Most house ACs will not come on if it is too cold outside. On the other hand, most vehicle ACs will come on on a sunny day even when it is cold outside.) stonumautomotive.com/running-cars-air-conditioner-winter-good-bad/I personally have experienced this with my apartment's AC unit. One long cold winter I never ran my AC for months. When I finally turned it on, it made a funny noise. Sounded like it was about to break. Eventually it went away after the compressor became lubricated. But we all know metal on metal is not good for machines. Same thing with the car's heater during the summer. Running the heater in your motor vehicle will circulate the coolant (water and antifreeze) through the heater core. So that your heater core doesn't freeze during a first freeze. And most of us have experienced that stinky smell in Fall when we first turn on the heater after not using it all Summer.
