La Passion de Dodin Bouffant (English title "The Taste of Things") - Gorgeous French film directed by the Vietnamese director Tran Anh Hung, who made "Scent of Green Papaya" about 25 years ago. In the late 19th century, a wealthy and seemingly idle man (Benoit Magimel) living in his large country estate dedicates his life to food - trying new recipes with his long-time cook and lover Juliette Binoche, offering elaborate dinners to his friends. Not a whole lot happens in terms of plot, but it looks fantastic and the dialogues are great and it just might be the best "food" film I have ever seen - certainly the best in recent memory.
It is France's entry in the Foreign Film category at the Oscars, so if it makes the shortlist there is a chance it will be widely distributed internationally. In that case, I urge everyone who likes this sort of thing to go watch it.
