Producers Dimitri Rassam at Mediawan-owned banner Chapter 2 and Pathé have unveiled a first still of the movie, which stars Pierre Niney as the iconic title character.

Although I will admit I thoroughly enjoy this version. I don't necessarily have a problem with Hollywood adapting foreign stories, I just prefer it when each country uses its own stories, even if the end product is in a language I don't understand. Case in point the recent "All Quiet on the Western Front", which was the first German-language adaptation of a German book.

Made me nostalgic to go and re-watch that really lovely French 1990 film of Cyrano de Bergerac. A Hollywood production of that just couldn't have touched it.  |

To be honest: the American movie B/W adaption of "All Quiet on the Western Front" had been excellent. They also showed a great understanding of what happened at the "Home Front". This may be bc of some Germans working in Hollywood at that time who had witnessed WW I in Germany and could care for making the context right. On the other side: At the moment I could not imagine any American filmmaker doing a "The White Ribbon" now. |
