Zulu is a great movie but a tad problematic these days. It was, however, one of the finest moments in history of the British Army immediately after one of its worst (Battle of Isandlwana). It was certainly a well-organised battle that showed how intelligence can prevail over not intelligence. I would say the finest moments from the British armed forces are, in order of significance to Britain: 1. The Battle of Britain. Thwarting the German invasion of Britain and sending Adolf away from western Europe to go and slug it out with Russians was the pivotal moment in WW2. Absolute, utter respect to all who were involved in that. Massive, massive respect. 2. The Battle of Trafalgar. Utterly destroying the Spanish fleet on their turf before they even set off to try and invade us - absolutely brilliant. 3. The Battle of Waterloo - as usual, Brits come to the rescue of Europeans and we fucked Napoleon and his dictatorship right up the arse. But they didnβt prevail over the own pride as civilized men. They are ashamed of the carnage at end as the remaining Zulu salute their bravery and military resolve. |
