As a Star Wars fan, I was excited for this Star Wars-like movie, especially since I've liked most of Zach Snyder's movies despite many of them taking a critical bashing. It's not horrible, but it's...not good, and it wastes huge potential. The CGI is mostly bad, which is a likely side effect of a comparatively low budget. (Both parts 1 and 2 have a combined budget of $166m, with a runtime, assuming part 2 is about the same runtime as part 1, of about 4 hours. Meanwhile, most big budget movies like this have a runtime of 2 to 2.5 hours and a budget of $200m+, meaning a lot more dollar-per-minute punch.) The dialogue is pretty bad all throughout, with so much of it feeling as if they are saying SOMETHING IMPORTANT even when they are not. The cast is a who's who of "Who?", mostly actors I've never heard of and who would better serve as minor character actors than the leads of a major movie. Charlie Hunnam is a standout, though; he was good. The worst thing, however, was the expositional dialogue. There is SO! MUCH! EXPOSITION! Hell, the movie begins with a v.o. monologue by Anthony Hopkins that sounds like they wrote a Star Wars opening crawl that was about four times the length of an average SW crawl, realized they were asking the audience to read WAY too much, so they had Hopkins read it out instead. Okay, it's a bit much, but surely they aren't going to stop the movie like three damn times later on to have a character give even more exposition in the form of a long monologue, are they? Lulz, they are, they really are, and you just have to sit and listen.
On IMDb, I have this a 5/10.

I didn’t like it either. It was kind of amazing they managed to make me care about exactly zero characters by the end of it when they introduce a new one every two minutes (though that’s probably exactly why).
Pretty disappointing.

It's a wonder that he does not just get more experienced writers for his movies.

It's a wonder that he does not just get more experienced writers for his movies. Looks like his co-writers have worked on some of his other movies. It's probably a comfort thing, i.e. he's used to working with them.

Most Netflix movies are usually awful but Rebel Moon looks okay. Sticking Ed Skrein in a Nazi getup isn't good.

From what I can tell, it's Jack Snyder's version of Star Wars.
Very little character development.
Most of Part One is getting a crew together.

Part Two managed to have even more exposition. Fuck these movies.

It’s Star Wars, Warhammer, The Magnificent Seven, and I swear to God, they reused the music from “Man of Steel” in part 2.
