There's a documentary about the film and how it got shelved.
Have you seen 'Kraa! The Sea Monster' (1998)? I think you might enjoy it. It's co-produced by Charles Band and has a strong comic book vibe, like the 'Oblivion' series. It might have been Alison Lohman's film debut, she plays Planet Patrol Agent Curtis. Another great performer given a break by Band and / or Roger Corman during their prolific production careers.
