What are some classic films you haven't seen but want to finally watch in 2024?
There are a bunch for me, but I'll list 10 of them
The Racket (1928) Rome, Open City (1945) Seven Thieves (1960) The Spy Who Came in from the Cold (1965) Annie Oakley (1935) If.... (1968) Old Yeller (1957) Days of Wine and Roses (1962) The Last Command (1928) Pocketful of Miracles (1961)

I hope to revisit some more movies of my misspent-at-the-movies youth that I haven’t seen in years and years. I started that in a small way during the lockdown years when I revisited several films noir, “Days Of Wine And Roses” and both the Clark Gable and Marlon Brando versions of “The Mutiny On The Bounty” among others. Early in 2024, I’m going to get to “The Bridge On The River Kwai” – I already have the movie at home from the public library. Other than that, I don’t have a list yet, only intentions.
Good idea for a thread. I am looking forward to other contributions.

April 2024 to April 2025 Watch a lot of Metro Goldwyn Mayer films and documentaries in honor of the Studio’s Centennial.
July 2024 In honor of the Centennial of the first established Marx Brothers play I’LL SAY SHE IS, I will watch their films and documentaries that month.
Watch CHARIOTS OF FIRE in honor of the Centennial of the 1924 Olympics. I may do something about the 40th Anniversary of DRAGON BALL.

A few things on my watchlist I'm hoping to maybe get to this year
Louis Feuillade's classic 1915 serial Les Vampires
As many lesser known Setsuko Hara films I can get a hold of, pretty much only seen her films with Ozu and Naruse
Some more Nicolas Ray. Have loved the four of his films I've seen for the longest time
Still yet to see anything from Pier Paolo Pasolini or Miklos Jancso, hope to remedy that
More experimental/non-narrative stuff, a recent passion

I have an extensive film collection, the product of years of compulsive buying of DVDs and later Blu-Rays. During COVID when I had a lot more free time to watch movies at home, I realised that I was wasting a lot of time just trying to decide what to watch, so eventually I made a list of priorities to make it easier to choose. Since then I’ve always maintained this list, adding high-priority new acquisitions as well as movies that will turn 100, 75 or 50 during the year, and also to mark important birthdays of some actors/directors.
Here are some movies that I have never watched before and that I intend to see in 2024:
From one hundred years ago: The Last Laugh (Murnau) The Navigator (Buster Keaton) The Iron Horse (John Ford) Girl Shy (Harold Lloyd) The Thief of Bagdad (with Douglas Fairbanks) From seventy-five years ago: The Quiet Duel (Kurosawa) I Was a Male War Bride (with Cary Grant) Under Capricorn (Hitchcock) Twelve O’Clock High From fifty years ago: Scent of a Woman (the original Italian one) Earthquake Ten Little Indians The Great Gatsby One-Eyed Jacks (the one movie directed by Marlon Brando), to mark the 100th anniversary of his birth. Plan 9 From Outer Space, to mark the 100th anniversary of Ed Wood’s birth. Marriage Italian Style to mark the 100th anniversary of Marcello Mastroianni’s birth. American Graffiti to mark George Lucas 80th birthday Aside from those “celebratory” ones: All that Jazz (Bob Fosse) The 47 Ronin (Mizoguchi, 1941) The Human Condition (Masaki Kobayashi) Ugetsu (Mizoguchi, 1953) 20,000 Leagues under the Sea (1916) Cleopatra (Cecil B. de Mille, 1934)

Finish seeing ever Best Actor and Actress Oscar Nominated performance. I've seen every Best Pic nominee and every best director nominee that possible (excepting a couple from last year that I just haven't got to yet and the three unavailable). I'm about at 80% of the Best Actors, maybe more

Many films knock out multiple categories. Silence of the Lambs kills off Best Pic, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director. Same with It Happened one Night and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. And this is for my entire life. I watched West Side Story when I was a teenager and never seen it again (I hate musicals)

D'oh! How did I not realize that. Of course there will be a lot of repetition.
