Or maybe it's because it's virtually unknown in Germany? While there is a German translation available, it doesn't even have a German Wikipedia page.
How's the Common Core Math working for you?
To me the problem is less school, more parents. They seem less involved in teaching the kids at home to supplement school.

Your propaganda error ummm title isn't applicable. No one is banning books, Goebbels. They're still available outside the taxpayer funded school libraries.

I have an old dictionary from 1933. Maybe they can use that. Forums really piss me off sometimes. The post I want to respond to, yours, is nowhere near where the flow of conversation is now, so it'll probably disrupt it. Nonetheless, there's a dictionary in my house that's old and it shows. It's probably from around the same period but a bit later. Last year someone in my house looked up "gossip" in it while I looked online. It leapt out at us all that this much older dictionary designated gossip as a feminine noun. It seemed not only sexist to me, but a hint at why so many people grow up believing something they likely unconsciously picked up from a source like a dictionary. I just thought it was interesting. Something one catches or notices decades after the fact. The online definition made no such designation.

There should be more books in school, not less. When you slash and slash schools it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy that public schools decline, education declines, and private education becomes more attractive as a place for students to attend and for faculty to work. Public schools are underfunded because it's (considered by some) acceptable to take money out of its coffers to absorb the shock of tax breaks for the wealthy. Then wealthy and unwealthy alike complain that the school system is failing. No shit it is. It's failing because it's being defunded and all but sabotaged.

For the concerned fasci...I mean parents who rail against LGBT+ characters in children's books: Are you at all aware that elementary school kids have been reading a popular series of books about a gay couple for several decades now?
What purpose does this serve? What value does it add to a child's life?
You can't even post pictures of this one here or you get flagged for kiddie porn
Honestly, The kids would react to them about the same way we reacted when we found out they weren't singing "The chicks will scream" in greased lightning.
A little bit of giggling and then it's forgotten.
For the record (in case you didn't spot it) they are singing "The chicks will cream".

Chickenpox isn't that big a deal. ... Chickenpox and shingles are related because they are caused by the same virus (varicella-zoster virus). After a person recovers from chickenpox, the virus stays dormant (inactive) in the body. It can reactivate years later and cause shingles.
More than 99% of Americans born on or before 1980 have had chickenpox, even if they don’t remember having the disease."
If you have ever had shingles, you know that chickenpox can be "that big a deal" years or decades later !

Why is it so hard to denounce visual depictions of minors having sex or grandpa wearing S&M gear in children's books?

THAT was one thing Equality and I definitely agreed on........... you NEED parents that care. Otherwise it's just a crapshoot on whether any of it will ever work.

Well, that's the difference between chicken pox...........and shingles.
Shingles is a relatively new thing they've associated with chicken pox, as well.

it must be a bit like porn or drugs for many...........they become desensitized to it, thus they require more hardcore stuff to even take notice.

Only perverts and rabid SJWs keep using this argument to defend pornographic books in children schools.

Apparently removing pedophilia and graphic sex from libraries that are populated almost exclusively by minors is "sabotage."
Uh...whose desires or agenda is being sabotaged, exactly?

Because I remember being a child.
Anybody who would deny me the chance to read anything and I would move Heaven and Earth, and raise Hell to read whatever it is, regardless wether I had any interest in it in the first place.
And when I had read it, I would loose interest.
