30mph or 20mph? Well, the following article is not about that question. But about the strange finding that bc of culture wars the same UK politicians can have different opinions about the question above dependent on where they are! English Tory politicians running Facebook groups opposing 20mph in Wales while supporting it where they live www.walesonline.co.uk/news/politics/english-tory-politicians-running-facebook-28449407(I once mentioned elsewhere that even our German CDU politicians do have nothing against 30km/h zones where they do live...)

Welsh govt backtracks on 20 mph limit. The process of reverting some roads from Wales' 20mph default speed limit to 30 will begin in September, the new transport secretary has said. Ken Skates urged people to contact local councils and tell them "where they think 20mph should be targeted". He was unable to say how many roads will change, and said it would be up to councils to decide which switch. But the Conservatives said the 20mph default speed limit would stay and "nothing has changed". www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cz96vjvrdz9o

20 mph? Unless my calculations are wrong, which they very rarely are, that's 32 km/h. That's a ridiculously low speed limit, and impossible to respect.

No more than 4mph.
That is the top speed on my mobility scooter, and when I reach that the motion is so soothing that I tend to fall asleep, although to be honest, when I read various suggestions that one can safely drive through London's crowded streets at anything more than the speed of a comfortable amble, I am reminded of the fairy stories my mum told me at bed time, which also caused me to nod off.

We have young men in my area who didn't even bother with the 30mph rule.

Yeah but as I said, even 30 isn’t adhered to. There’s a stretch of the North Circular Road near me and you can hear the occasional car really hit the pedal.

Those units of measurement don't make sense. Adopt the metric system you idiots... ... they partly did it already. But at the very same moment some British politician were going further this road, the right wing spin doctors would start another culture war (see Jacob Rees-Mogg's love for imperial units... ). My main point, by the way, was not asking whether 30mph or 20mph is better. It was a trick question to show how artificially constructed this culture war (like so many others) is. Are there low traffic zones in Lisboa and Porto? Are they 30km/h zones? Had there been cultural wars about them?
