William Shatner Presents ... 10 Leading Ladies Of The 20th Century!
With Tina Louise (89) approaching her 10th decade and Kim Novak (90) recently trending online, I decided to watch some interviews from the archive with other venerable north American actresses. Hopefully, performers like Janis Paige (101), Priscilla Pointer (99), Eva Marie Saint (99), June Lockhart (98), Ann Blyth (95), Vera Miles (94) and Gena Rowlands (93) are enjoying their retirement from acting, perhaps keeping busy with other preoccupations.
William Shatner & Lee Grant in Jean-Claude Lord's psychological slasher 'Visiting Hours' (1982)
Lee Grant (born Lyova Haskell Rosenthal, October 31, some time between 1925 and 1931 (disputed sources differ), New York City, New York, U.S.)
~ Lee Grant introduces 'Looking For America : The Films Of Lee Grant', a retrospective at the 2023 Glasgow Film Festival
Barbara Rush (97) reached out to people via video link with a message of hope whilst living under quarantine, during the global pandemic. I've not seen Joanne Woodward (93) in some years now but I believe she's been living with Alzheimer's. I always enjoy hearing from great performers of the classical era of moviemaking. These interviews contain plenty of choice words about the business, as well as colleagues in the acting profession, and directors past.
William Shatner & Angie Dickinson in Steve Carver's historical crime picture 'Big Bad Mama' (1974)
Angie Dickinson (born Angeline Brown, September 30, 1931, Kulm, North Dakota, U.S.)
~ Angie Dickinson discusses working with filmmaker Howard Hawks at the opening night of the 2023 Turner Classic Movies Film Festival

Hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane, hosted by Canadian leading man William Shatner!

Theatre actor William Shatner earned his big break in to cinema when cast in Richard Brooks' period piece 'The Brothers Karamazov' (1958), an adaptation of a novel by Fyodor Dostoevsky. Marilyn Monroe was considered for the role of Grushenka (played by Maria Schell) but contract negotiations crushed this possibility. Brooks had expressed an interest in casting Carroll Baker for the role of Grushenka, but Warner Bros. had put her on suspension.
