That's great from the Conservatives, but something needs to be done NOW. This is a terrible problem which I see every day and it's getting worse and worse each year. Where Labour will fail however, is to identify those who do have homes (in other countries) and exclude them from this scheme. I.e. voluntary homelessness should not be rewarded, and Labour will be taken for a ride on this one.

Perhaps it would help if if the Conservative cabinet minister could address why mental health issues have accelerated on their watch, might it have something to do with the criminal under funding of mental health services since they've been in office. When you strip the NHS to the bone there are many knock on effects.

Perhaps it would help if if the Conservative cabinet minister could address why mental health issues have accelerated on their watch, might it have something to do with the criminal under funding of mental health services since they've been in office. When you strip the NHS to the bone there are many knock on effects. Under-funded maybe, but you can't say it's been stripped to the bone, because funding consistently rises: www.kingsfund.org.uk/projects/nhs-in-a-nutshell/nhs-budgetThese are interesting stats: - In 2015/16 there were 40 per cent more operations completed by the NHS compared to 2005/06 - There were 16.252m total hospital admissions in 2015/16, 28 per cent more than a decade earlier - The total annual attendances at Accident & Emergency departments was 23.372m in 2016/17, 23.5 per cent higher than a decade earlier www.nhsconfed.org/resources/key-statistics-on-the-nhsWhy have there been such huge rises in demand over the last decade? - Are we less healthy? Doubt it, we are generally getting healthier. - Ageing population? Sure, but surely not that much. - Growing population? Yes, but again, surely not that much. - Health tourism? The stats here suggest it's not very high: fullfact.org/health/health-tourists-how-much-do-they-cost-and-who-pays/Or is it just a combination of all of the above? One way or the other, demand is outstripping supply and they need to get to the bottom of that.

The operations being done though are minor procedures done to keep the figures up and look good.. There are many complex reasons, no doubt for increased demand etc but the reality is that the NHS has needed and been given around a 4% increase every year to keep up with demand and medical advances. This was honoured by all parties until 2010 when the Tories cut the funding to around 1.2%. So, yes, you can say that they are being funded still, but in reality they are not being given the money needed and accepted by all politician for 60 years. I am not arguing a political point here, for if we want to change to an (appallingly poor value) American style system then we need to have an open discussion about it, but creating an unsustainable, poor system by neglect is not the way forward.

Anytime a politician pledges to eliminate any kind of issue they need to be told to get the fuck out.
