What animus do you recommend ?
The term “animus” has several nuanced meanings:
Ill Will and Prejudice: It often refers to prejudiced and spiteful ill will harbored towards someone or something. This animosity can be driven by strong prejudice or negative feelings. For example, if someone holds a grudge or feels intense hostility, we might say they have an animus.
Attitude Basic Attitude or Disposition: In a broader sense, animus can denote a basic attitude or governing spirit. It represents the underlying disposition or intention that guides a person’s actions or beliefs.
Analytical psychology Analytical Psychology: In the context of Carl Gustav Jung’s analytical psychology, animus refers to an inner masculine part of the female personality. It represents the masculine aspects within a woman’s psyche.
The word “animus” traces its origins to Latin, where it can mean “spirit,” “mind,” “courage,” or “anger”. Interestingly, it shares roots with terms like “animosity,” “magnanimous,” and “unanimous” but is not as closely related to words like “animal” or “animate”. Those latter terms derive from the Latin word “anima,” which means “soul” or “breath” and conveys physical vitality or life force1.
