WASHINGTON, D.C. (WBAY) - A Pulaski native who took part in the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol three years ago will spend the next 3 years in a federal prison.
A federal judge in Washington sentenced Riley Kasper on Tuesday to 37 months of incarceration followed by two years of supervised release.
Kasper was charged in March 2022 after he was identified by security videos. According to court documents, he bragged in a social media message that he was part of a group that broke through a gate and chased police officers, and he “pepper sprayed 3 cops so bad they got undressed and went home.”
He wrote the next day, “There is definitely something satisfying about pepper spraying cops in riot gear.”

Kasper pleaded guilty last September to assaulting an officer. He was initially charged with assaulting an officer, entering a restricted building with a deadly or dangerous weapon, and disorderly conduct.
In addition to serving time, he has to pay $2,000 in restitution.
Kasper was among hundreds of people who stormed the Capitol in an unsuccessful attempt to stop Congress from certifying Joe Biden’s win over Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election.
Separately on Tuesday, a U.S. Court of Appeals said the former president can face trial on charges that he plotted to overturn 2020 election results, which were found valid after numerous court challenges and recounts even in Republican-led states. The court rejected Trump’s claim he has presidential immunity for actions while he was in the White House. Trump’s lawyers say they’ll appeal the ruling, which was unanimous.
