A Chicago born girl that was brought up in Dallas Texas, that once grabbed a Supporting Actress Oscar, but the road to that statuette was a bumpy road.
One of her early goals was to become a nurse, but during a local play an agent spotted her, who was actually trying to sign a male star, RKO signed her when she was still called "Dorothy Maloney".
Warner Bros signed her, changed her surname to "Malone", but nothing happened except a bookstore girl role.
After years as freelance and going platinum blond she finally got the stardom she deserved that lasted a few years.
This year we celebrate her birthdate 100 years ago.
Dorothy Malone (1924-2018)
RKO never cared to bill her except in The Falcon and the Co-eds 1943.
Her most famous role at Warner was as the Acme Book Shop Proprietress in The Big Sleep 1946.
Sharing a scene with Jack Carson and Dennis Morgan in Two Guys from Texas 1948
Girl with a riffle in The Nevadan 1950 co-starring Randolph Scott.
She had just given up getting roles in Hollywood and moved to New York since that's where they made live television, when producer Hal B. Wallis gave her a lead role opposite Martin and Lewis in Scared Stiff 1953.
Seducing Tab Hunter in Battle Cry 1955
Turning blonde in Written on the Wind 1957 gave her a supporting Oscar, and suddenly she was something of a star.
The Tarnished Angels 1957.
As Diana Barrymore with Errol Flynn as John Barrymore in Too Much, Too Soon 1958.
With Richard Widmark in Warlock 1959.
With Robert Stack in sinking ship movie The Last Voyage 1960
With Kirk Douglas in western The Last Sunset 1961
Roles dried out very quickly and she one again turned to television.
Co-starring with Frankie and Annette in Beach Party 1963 was an exception.
342 episodes of Peyton Place between 1964 and 1968 and earning a Golden Globe nomination.
The rest of her acting life she appeared in numerous TV-episodes, TV-movies and occationally in forgettable movies and sequels called Murder in Peyton Place 1977 and Peyton Place: The Next Generation 1985 reprising her old role.
Super-cheap Sci-Fi Movie The Day the Time Ended 1979 with Jim Davis.
Unlike many, she got a decent screen farewell in a hit movie, Basic Instinct 1992.
She acted in over 110 movies and television productions, so the above examples is not complete.
