If I need to fix my travel, there’s one person that does that, if I need comp tickets for my family, there’s one person that does that and I think adjusting to not knowing who is what department and who to go to for whatever question I have and just the scale of production here in AEW is such a difference for me.”

'Historic Rivalries' : Mickie James Vs Deonna Purrazzo
'CRAZED Deonna Purrazzo ATTACKS icon Mickie James IN HER HOME!' | IMPACT! Zone | September 30, 2021

The Legend Of Mickie James
Mickie James was born at Richmond Memorial Hospital in Richmond, Virginia on August 31, 1979. She grew up in Montpelier, Virginia. When violence erupted in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2017, many people were badly injured and Heather Danielle Heyer was murdered on the street. James, who is part Native American (of the Powhatan tribe), condemned the violence in her home state publicly at a time she knew she would light a political powderkeg. "Born at Richmond Memorial Hospital in 1979, Mickie James grew up in Hanover County's Montpelier area. She was a tomboy who loved riding horses on her grandmother's Caroline County farm. Her mother, Sandra Knuckles, a Hanover County teacher and real-estate agent, and her father, Stuart James, who's retired from his job in wastewater treatment and landscaping at Bear Island Paper Co. in Ashland, divorced when James was young. James has one full sister, a half-sister, a half-brother and three stepbrothers. ("Holidays can get crazy," she says.) Stuart James passed on his love of wrestlers like Blackjack Mulligan to Mickie and her two sisters. They grew up in the '80s era of Hulkamania, when the old World Wrestling Federation exploded into the merchandising mainstream with action figures, T-shirts and Saturday-morning cartoons. "I wasn't a huge fan of Hulk. I loved the bad guys like ‘Macho Man' Randy Savage and Ric Flair," James says. "Everybody else loved Hulk, so I wasn't into him. Now I love him for what he's done for the industry, but I wasn't a Hulkamaniac. It's funny: I'm the good guy now, and I always loved the bad guys growing up." The James girls gathered in front of the TV with their dad every Saturday evening to follow the latest pugnacious dramas, which often bled outside the confines of the TV screen and onto the living-room floor, where "all the girls would get together and wrassle me," Stuart James recalls with a chuckle. Describing herself as a natural "performer and clown," Mickie James evinced an interest in entertaining from a young age, recording homemade mix tapes of herself singing Whitney Houston tunes on her boombox.
During high school, James worked summers as a lifeguard at Kings Dominion and waitressed at the Cracker Barrel in Ashland during the school year. She graduated from Patrick Henry High School in 1997, one math credit shy of receiving the honors diploma she needed to seek a scholarship. "My family didn't have enough money to send me to college, and I was trying my hardest," James says. She racked up more than enough credits but failed trigonometry, a required course for the advanced degree. "I got out of high school with no direction," James remembers sadly. Working at a bar in Shockoe, she was taking martial-arts classes for self-defense when a friend who knew she liked wrestling told her about KYDA, a now-defunct school for aspiring wrestlers in Manassas. But it was no easy jump into pro-wrestling fame. James' story is one of long years of training, perfecting her art and pulling herself up the ropes until she made it to her feet. No Hollywood producer spotted her at a drugstore counter. No talent agency cast her. She made her own breaks. Mickie James is very much her own creation, and it's doubtful anyone has ever labored harder to earn the scripted championship title."
- Richard Foster, 'The Ballad Of Mickie James' (Tales From Richmond, Virginia)
Southern Championship Wrestling : Alexis Laree Vs Persephone (2001)
In 1999, James arrived on the wrestling scene as Alexis Laree. She worked as a valet on the independent wrestling scene which has always been her turf. A lifelong wrestling fanatic, she'd attended a professional wrestling school in the Washington, D.C. area and she made her professional in-ring debut that same year. "Wrestling is definitely not a job with longevity. It is a career that many stars only manage to stay in for around a decade, which means that there are always other plans for Superstars after they leave the industry. Mickie James was smart and she decided to study and get her degree before her wrestling career became full time. Mickie has a degree in Business Administration and is also studying for her Bachelor of the Arts degree in Business Management. Mickie ensured that she had a Plan B if her wrestling career didn't work out. This also means that Mickie is a well-educated individual, which is something people don't expect WWE Superstars to be. Having an education to fall back on is never a bad thing, especially for a professional wrestler. Mickie is an animal lover. She has always spoken about how much she loves animals and even owns quite a few herself. Mickie owns three Morgan horses named Bunny, Rhapsody, and Casanova. She also owns two dogs who are named Butch and Elvis. Mickie grew up on a farm and it has always been her dream to open and run her own farm when her wrestling career was over. This could be why she is studying for a business degree so that she knows how to run her own company. It would be a big change to go from wrestling to farming, but it seems that this is something Mickie is really passionate about. It seems Mickie is looking for a quiet life when wrestling is over."

Ohio Valley Wrestling : Jillian Hall Vs Alexis Laree (2004)
James is a vocal supporter of the LGBTQ+ Pro Wrestling Community. In the 2000s, a groundbreaking, mainstream, televised story angle involving James and Trish Stratus saw James become dangerously obsessed with the 7-time WWE Women's Wrestling Champion and WWE Hall of Famer from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. James' all-consuming madness concealed her dynamic athleticism and extraordinary skill-set as the ticking time bomb propelled a career at the highest level that's seen her become a 6-time WWE Women's Wrestling Champion. Her work with Stratus influenced several future multi-time champs in WWE, notably A J Lee who's dealt with real life mental health issues, and shapeshifter Alexa Bliss who's dealt with serious illness and a weight disorder in her life.
“Piggie James was the storyline that brought LayCool to fruition and really started and helped develop our characters. It was a main storyline that, at the time, started giving Divas more screen time and longer matches — we even had a huge celebration. If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times: I give every single ounce of credit for that storyline to Mickie James. It was tough on everybody, but obviously tough on Mickie, to say the least. She was the utmost professional in that situation. She never complained about the material that was being written. She never bitched, moaned, or tried to change it or get it shut down. She knew it was business — she knew it was going to help us. She was already an incredibly over babyface, she was a great wrestler — people loved her. She was one of those people who came in as a heel during the whole ‘psycho/Trish’ thing, but the fans loved her so much that WWE ended up turning her babyface. I don’t think we could have done that storyline with anybody else. We got so much hate from that storyline from fans. People would send stuff in and we’d just be like: ‘holy moly, we’re getting genuine hate — but on the other hand, I feel horrible! What kind of message is this sending out?’ You just have to kind of remember that it’s just a character on TV. A lot of times people just forgot that and it’s easy to do.”

Mickie James : 6 x WWE Women's Wrestling Champion
James was equally groundbreaking on the independent scene where she wrestled for Women's Extreme Wrestling / Women's Erotic Wrestling alongside Daffney, Francine, Jazz, ODB, Mercedes Martinez, SoCal Val, Velvet Sky and hardcore stoner and deadly WEW Women's Champion Tai 'Killer' Weed. This underground promotion based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and New York City, New York featured segments in which women made love to each other, including several wrestlers active on the roster. James also worked as a dancer and figure model to make money to fund her cross-country wrestling career, earning a reputation as one of the hardest-working wrestlers in the business. A proud activist with her own views on life, James performed more recently at GLAAD's Concert for Love & Acceptance in Nashville, Tennessee, an event held in 2019 that featured a coalition of artists and celebrities appearing and performing to show their support and acceptance for the LGBTQ+ community (James worked under the 'Champions For PRIDE' banner).
"Last year I had the opportunity to speak with former 2-time WWE Women’s champion Victoria (Lisa Marie Varon) and she shared a story with me that former 16-time world champion and 2-time WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair asked her along with former six-time Women’s Champion Mickie James to train Charlotte. “Ric asked if I could help train his daughter Charlotte along with Mickie James. I think I was then scheduled for an appearance that did not come through and to have Ric Flair call you and say train my daughter. How cool is that?” Varon told me. Last month WWE Raw made it’s way to Dallas, Texas, and I was able to catch up with Mickie James and asked her thoughts on Ric Flair wanting her to train his daughter. “Ric really wanted us to train Charlotte before she was in the business. The only actual training I did with her was when I went down to NXT, but she was injured at the time. So, I never actually got to see her wrestle. I was down there for like a week at the training facility. What I recall is Ric wanting Lisa and me to train Ashley (Charlotte Flair). I can confirm that Ric did express interest prior to her pursuing a career in wrestling and he wanted her to learn from who he considered the best. He has always been very kind to Lisa and me throughout our careers”, James told me."

Mickie James : 5 x TNA Impact Knockouts Champion
In addition to the many title belts she's held on the independent wrestling circuit, James is a 5-time TNA Impact Knockouts Champion and widely considered to be one of the best TNA wrestlers of all time. In 2009, James was ranked No. 1 in the Pro Wrestling Index's Top 50 women's wrestlers. "Mickie James made her WWE debut back in 2005, it was a time when both Trish Stratus and Lita were looking to walk away from the company, and many fans looked at Mickie as the future of the Women's Division. It is easy to see why; Mickie is a talented wrestler and a history-making wrestler at that. Mickie is a former five-time Women's Champion, a one-time Divas Champion, and a three-time TNA Knockout's Champion. This means that Mickie is the only woman to have held all three titles, no other woman has managed to dominate the female divisions of two of the biggest wrestling companies like Mickie has."

Hardcore Luminaries : Mickie James ('Alexis Laree') & Tommy Dreamer ('The Innovator Of Violence') Vs Allie ('The Bunny') & Braxton Sutter ('The Blade')
James is a musician and songwriter in the country & western genre. She plays guitar, violin and sings. She's recorded 2 albums, 'Strangers & Angels' (2010) and 'Somebody's Gonna Pay' (2013), as well as a number of singles. On October 14, 2017, James was inducted into the Native American Music Awards Hall of Fame, something she considers one of her greatest honours.
“I’m assuming and only an assumption that she did not flip the switch like some of the other divas did. There were some issues about her that she allegedly needed to lose weight and all of these things. I want to tell you something, there’s a few unsung heroes of the divas that we signed that don’t get the credit that they deserve. That would include Mickie James by far. She’s a Hall Of Famer (ed. "she's not, or at least not yet ..."), she’s a hell of a hand. The reason you keep Mickie James types around is because they can have great matches or the best matches than some of your green women cannot have working with each other.
Jackie Moore is as good as anybody we have ever signed. Nobody was any better than Jackie Moore in the ring. For all the great success that a Lita and a Trish (Stratus) had … you’ve gotta look back and say atta girl Mickie James, atta girl Jackie Moore, atta girl Ivory. There were several of those women that didn’t get the accolades that they probably should have deserved. I’m just thinking that Mickie probably wasn’t Vince’s cup of tea maybe. I thought she was phenomenal and I still do. They are lucky they have her. She’s still singing. She’s got a beautiful singing voice, she’s got a beautiful son. Her husband (Magnus) is the NWA Champion. I got a lot of time for Mickie James and her family and I just think that she’s a classic. She’s definitely a Hall Of Famer (ed. "not yet JR!"). She’s one of the few people that if they get inducted into the Hall Of Fame that I would venture back into those waters to go see her get inducted. I have so much love and respect for Mickie because of what she’s gone through and battled through. The little country girl that could and she was just trying to live her dreams. Anybody that can’t appreciate others trying to live their dreams can kiss my ass. My dimpled fat Oklahoma ass, kiss it.”

Possible Allies For Deonna Purrazzo At All Elite Wrestling
With Deonna Purrazzo intent upon hunting down old friend Timeless Toni Storm, it's unclear which wrestlers on the AEW women's roster could become natural adversaries and which could become allies. At different times in the recent past, Storm's fought alongside Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D. as well as Sariya and Ruby Soho in the Outcasts. Serena Deeb, Thunder Rosa and Hikaru Shida are committed loners who are great in-ring technicians like Purrazzo, so I hope to see some matches between these women in future. Athena is the current Ring Of Honor Champion.
With that said, here's 5 wrestlers whom the Virtuosa may be able to call upon in future if she finds herself outnumbered ...
01) Superbad Penelope Ford (September 14, 1992, Phoenix, Arizona, U.S.)
Deonna Purrazzo has fought Penelope Ford on multiple occasions on the independent circuit and I suspect she knows her abilities well. Purrazzo defeated Ford in Game Changer Wrestling in 2016, securing a major victory early in her career.

Seems like the amoral Ford could provide some serious back-up for Purrazzo if needed ...

02) Kiera Hogan (September 16, 1994, Decatur, Georgia, U.S.)
3-time TNA Impact Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo isn't the only great from the Impact! zone who's currently signed to All Elite Wrestling. There's former TNA Impact Knockouts Champion Taya Valkyrie and her fellow Canadian, 2-time TNA Impact Knockouts Champion Allie (The Bunny). Working as a trainer is 5-time TNA Impact Knockouts Champion Madison Rayne; only Gail Kim (7 titles) and Angelina Love (6 titles) have won this prestigious title more times than Rayne who's currently tied with the legend Mickie James (5 titles) in the all-time list.
IMPACT Wrestling Presents : The Best Of Madison Rayne | TNA Era Special
Rayne was both mentor and trainer to a young Kiera Hogan, the Georgia Peach. Hogan is a former TNA Impact Knockouts Tag Team Champion, having held the title with Fire 'N' Flava partner Tasha Steelz who defeated James to become TNA Impact Knockouts Champion in 2022. Hogan has a tremendous upside but has struggled to make an impact in AEW, making her a potential ally for a number one contender like Purrazzo. Since her arrival in AEW, the Virtuosa has scored victories over Hogan, Rayne and Valkyrie, delivering a statement of intent.
AEW : Deonna Purrazzo Vs Madison Rayne
03) Brook The Crook (Danhausen's Evil One) (Date Unknown / Morgan Hill, California, U.S.)
She may be a mystery and an outlier, but Brooke Havok is a skilled wrestler who was trained at the Nightmare Factory by QT Marshall and Cody Rhodes. Since coming under the spell of Danhausen, little has been seen of the bell ringer, making her a prime target for any wrestler needing back-up.
The Abadon (The Living Dead Girl) hunts down Danhausen (The Evil One)
Brook The Crook is also rumoured to have practised witchcraft, suggesting she may have the kind of magic at her fingertips possessed by Yuka Sakazaki (The Magical Girl) and Queen Aminata.
The Abadon takes the Oreo test with the Bunny
04) Julia Hart (November 8, 2001, Cambridge, Minnesota, U.S.) & Skye Blue (October 2, 1999, Chicago, Illinois, U.S.)
This one's an absolute no-brainer as the future of the company lies here. Plus, Julia Hart is the current TBS Champion.
