By gum! Shamima Begum, who left Britain as a schoolgirl to join Islamic State, has lost an appeal against the decision to remove her British citizenship. Begum travelled to Syria in 2015 at the age of 15. Her citizenship was revoked on national security grounds shortly after she was found in a Syrian refugee camp in February 2019. Last year, the now 24-year-old lost a challenge against the decision at the special immigration appeals commission. Begum’s lawyers brought a bid to overturn this decision at the court of appeal, with the Home Office opposing the challenge. All three appeal judges ruled against her on Friday. Dame Sue Carr, the head of the court of appeal, said the judges unanimously dismissed Begum’s appeal: “It could be argued that the decision in Miss Begum’s case was harsh. “It could also be argued that Miss Begum is the author of her own misfortune. But it is not for this court to agree or disagree with either point of view. “Our only task is to assess whether the deprivation decision was unlawful. We have concluded it was not and the appeal is dismissed.” .. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/feb/23/shamima-begum-loses-appeal-against-removal-of-british-citizenship

She's thick as pigshit and doesn't deserve a grain of sympathy...
... However I still have a problem with the principle that the UK can strip the citizenship of someone who is a British citizen by birth in this country.
Granted, Begum effectively gave that up by swearing allegiance to ISIS.

The real question has to be, who wants to return to Bethnal Green ?

Yikes Mowlick pick your battles wisely, this isn't one of them. She was turned on by her boyfriend's beheaded victims. Would you pick Bethnal Green or a tent in the middle of an arid desert surrounded by screaming Middle Eastern spawn?

More problematic than banning people coming to the West on the slight chance that they be Muslims?

Yeah, I find that problematic as well.
More problematic than banning people coming to the West on the slight chance that they be Muslims? I want to ban Muslims from IMMIGRATING to the West, not coming to the west as visitors, tourists or students. Not the same thing. And yes, I do think removing citizenship from someone entitled to it by birth is more problematic than imposing certain restrictions on who is accepted as an immigrant.

Muslim is a RELIGION not a race. I am not sure why you would think I did not know that...

You can only ban something that is tangible which a belief isn't.

I have lived in Bethnal Green so reckon an arid desert and a few kids would be more fun

Never mind, just like buses, I'm sure another appeal will be along in a minute! Is she paying for her legal representation, or are her lawyers doing it for free, or is it all being done through Legal Aid with the UK taxpayer footing the bill?
