I highly recommend The Promised Land, a new film from Denmark starring everyone’s favourite Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen. He plays a retired military veteran of low birth who asks the King’s permission to develop a piece of land long considered unsuitable for agriculture. That’s in the 18th century. As if the challenges of turning the inhospitable marshland into productive farmland weren’t enough, he has to face the fierce opposition of the wealthy and unscrupulous landowner who claims that the land in question is his. General unpleasantness ensues (to put it very mildly).

I had my suspicions from the poster that it might be a tad grim.

Belly laugh wise, the movie is a tad lacking.

Well he did play a fairly loathsome individual… badly imo!
