For me it's;
1) writing 2) plot 3) technical production (sound, camera work, etc.)
Even in a stupid movie, good dialogue is necessary or I lose interest.
What about you? Sex, attractive actors, action, violence, etc.

Right now I am watching “The Illusionist” (2006) which has all the key elements for me to love it: Directing (Neil Burger), writing/mysterious story (Burger, Steven Millhauser), acting (Edward Norton, Paul Giamatti, Jessica Biel, Rufus Sewell), and music (Philip Glass, whose scores can elevate any film). Color cinematography (Dick Pope) and editing (Naomi Geraghty) also play a part. In short, a collaborative effort by talented professionals, all of whom give their best to the project.

The fiction.
And the entertainment.
Not necessarily in that order.

It doesn't matter how good everything else is. It has to have interesting characters. Or I lose interest.
