This song is the opening credits music for Season 1 of True Detective, which I just recently started watching. Very watchable show, but the opening title stuff is shit-hot awesome.
This video is the complete song with lyrics. One of the comments I think has it right, but I wanted to hear a take from my board peeps.
This song is the bomb, but what do you think it is about?

It's not about anything. It's just a bunch of doped up bums sitting in their crappy van in the middle of the desert thinking that stringing random shit together has meaning.

Yes, yes, that's all fine for the uninspired mind...the NO POETS SOCIETY. I think it is about a fatal encounter between a hawk picking up a rattlesnake but getting bitten and they both crash back to earth, becoming both a sexual metaphor and a transcendent and moving embrace of both life and death. The male voice is the hawk, the female voice is the rattlesnake - but the song is 'translated' in to human perspective, i.e. fingers = talons, walking = slithering

Saw the Handsome Family a few years back, they are great fun live. If you like that one get their album "Twilight" which is a bit of a classic of "Americana".
