It's funny. People see (people outside the area) how much I love CBB and then I tell them the team I support the most has zero chance of ever winning a title. Yeah, they made a Final Four but that was a different era. And I didn't go to Bonaventure (I went to Penn State, who will never win a title either). So my expectations are less than a Kansas fan. A 20 win season and a run in the A10 is cool. Especially after last year. I just hope Mark Schmidt stays a while longer and has a successor groomed.
Similar boat here, although I did go to SLU. An A10 tournament title (2019) counts as a championship in my book. Yeah, winning the A10 is about the ceiling now. Bonaventure was local legends when I was a kid. Bob Lanier and the Final Four in 1970. Winning the NIT in 1978, when it still kind of mattered. Then they were garbage for so many years. And the A10 is a really tough conference for the Bonnies. Schools in NYC, Philly, Chicago, St. Looie, Pittsburgh, DC while SBU has to sell tiny Olean, NY.

A lot of school oped out of the NIT. St. John's, Oklahoma, Pitt, Memphis. Many did last year, North Carolina being the biggest. The NIT is dying. The ending of playing the Final Four in Madison Square Garden hurt. But it's the transfer portal that is killing it. The portal opened Monday and coaches and AD's are more concerned with who is leaving and who might be coming. On the surface, that more important than winning a tourney that makes to you 69th best team in America. There's already talk about moving the portal to the Monday after the Elite Eight games. But if the decision was made without asking the players, than that's shitty. No one on the Bonnies roster is going to get anywhere near the NBA. Only 1.9% of all college players ever play in the NBA. For most, their last college game is their last game ever. I can see a lot of players wanting to play for as long as they can.

Not only did they make the decision without asking the players, they never even told them about it. They found out when they saw it on TV.

The first game I ever went to at Reilly was in 1977, the year they won the NIT. The Brown Indians beat Syracuse and rookie coach Jim Boeheim. That was when the NIT still mattered. They beat Houston and Otis Birdsong to win the NIT. Greg Sanders and coach Jim Satalin signed a program for me (I lost it somewhere).
