17.5 kgs on each arm.
39 pounds on each.
Is that a lot or is that not much? I don't know.
Either way, I'm not a huge person so it's a lot for me. And my left arm hurts this morning.

What exercise was it? Dumbell curls? It’s more than me but I’ve only been working out frequently for about a year, and only in the last few months have I been doing it seriously. My style is outdated I think, but I’ll choose a weight where I can’t do any less than 6 reps with, and no more than 10. If I can’t manage 6 reps, I consider it too heavy and if I can do more than 10, it’s too light. Anyway, theBROKEdontrump is the expert, according to him at least.

I am curious what exercise too.
6-12 reps, yeah. Me too. None of this crossfit stuff. My back can't handle that.

17.5kgs is 39 pounds, rounded off. We have 17.5 kg dumbells at my gym. I guess if you’re American your gyms work in pounds, so would round it off to a 40 pound dumbell. I use 17.5 kg dumbells for dumbell incline benchpress. I can do more than ten reps so I guess I have to move up to 20 kgs.

The heaviest dumbbells at my gym are 60 kg (132 lb). I can barely lift it.

It tears the muscle. Not that that is a bad thing, just don’t go so hard. It’s more the movement than the weight. Do half of that and you can get the same workout. Add in a few more reps perhaps.

I start out with a 25 pound dumbell, with about 4 reps (less is more) Then I switch to an 8 pound dumbell with about 25 reps, so my arm muscles will be conditioned to move faster. I keep a 50 pound dumbell in reserve used for breaking past plateaus, changing up the workout routine. I also have an easy bar barbell loaded down with 220 pounds. Ironically I messed up my right arm reaching above my head to get a plate down from the cabinet. Such as it is I won't be doing any of those workouts for a while.

Most of the weight I carry is the weight of being a yellow person in what's often a black and white society.
No wonder my shoulders are often so sore.
