I imagine it is a bit like Lent But maybe not as strict.
I once heard a rather devout Christian friend explain to a similarly devout Muslim one that she was lucky. Strict Christians don't believe in any hanky panky during Lent (the temptation of Christ and such), whereas true Muslims only have to turn off the tap between sunrise and sunset.
Another thing is that it is the practise for Muslims to have a big breakfast before sunrise and an even bigger meal after sun set. The result is that the women often complain that they put on weight during Ramadam

You’re getting Lent wrong.

You’re getting Lent wrong. My mother is a strict Catholic and the only thing she does is not eating meat on Friday. So, nothing like Ramadan.

No meat on Friday (all year, not just during Lent) …although she just made me mince and tatties, which was nice. Bet she licked the spoon!

You’re getting Lent wrong. No I ain't.
Lent is remarkably similar to Ramadan in that it is about prayer, fasting and giving to charity, with the main difference being that Ramadan is limited to hours of daylight

I observe Lent.
From a distance - stuff it.

It's simple but tasty stuff. Indeed. She makes twice as much and with what’s left over makes a cottage pie and adds grated cheese to the top. Sticks it in the freezer for later. I actually prefer the cottage pie to the mince and tatties. It would be my last meal if I was on death row.
