Swedes can be racist, no denying that, but I think the view of Gypsies or Finnish Gypsies far transcends that. I have never experienced a group so dehumanized as them. It's not exclusive to Swedes but many Finns feel the same. Well, it seems to be a finished chapter in history for the Swedes anyway as they're now returning to Finland. Are you talking about the Sami? They’re indigenous to Finland and Sweden. Haha. I'd be apoplectic if they regarded the indigenous Sami as "gypsies".

I'm not talking about angry white male syndrome.
You're "liberal" in terms of race and social justice, amirite?
Shame on you.
Dunno. Can never make my mind up whether positive discrimination, for instance, is a good or bad thing. I grew up in a lily white suburb. But there was a Roma family on our street with like 9 boys. They created havoc allover the neighborhood.

They're sort of regarded as the 'Native Americans' of the North. There's a movie from Norway, Ofelas (Pathfinder, the same name as our user here), that was remade for an American audience where the Sámi was swapped with a Native American. Ofelas (1987) imdb.com/title/tt0093668/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_2_tt_8_nm_0_q_pathfinderPathfinder (2007) imdb.com/title/tt0446013/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_8_nm_0_q_pathfinderSome Swedes do hold a negative attitude towards the Sámis, and some extend it to the Finns as well. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1601-5223.1923.tb02951.xThe population of Norrbotten, the northernmost province of Sweden, is more variable, externally and internally, than any other province of Sweden. This is due to the fact that three different races, the Nordic (or Teutonic), the Finnic and the Lappic, for a long time past have had their dwelling-place in this part of our country. Numerous race-mixtures have meanwhile arisen...

So I'm not surprised the Swedes would look down on the indigenous Sami as vulgar primitives.
Curious to see the Finns hated so much by the Swedes. I mean the link lists Finnic as another race. Didn't they mix with the Mongol hordes?
The American guy is a bit gross himself though.

Those views can pertain to Finns in Sweden as well. They might there be perceived as violent drunks who fight with knives (I've heard that Norwegians also say that Sámis fight with knives, but I'm not sure). The Finns are a bit divergent from other Europeans on genetic maps. So there is a bit of meme that they're Asian/Mongoloid. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4382708/Their racial origin was taken into question in the US Court at one point: www.historymuseumeot.com/mfahs/htm/part8_0026.htm

I never realized Swedes look down on Finns. Old Nazi tribalism lives on I guess. We look at the Swedes now as the epitome of Euro-liberalism. But they are still Germanic fascists.
Also we need to be reminded of the U.S.'s history of racism in immigration. Damn, imagine Finns being considered nonwhite. My ancestors came from Greece in the early 20th century when Greeks and Italians were subject to immigration quotas.

A century ago, Sweden had an institute for racial biology set up by the Social Democrats. The country at the time was world leading in eugenics, forced sterilisations, etc. The Nazis were influenced from there (the most prominent Nazi racial scientist and philosopher lived in Scandinavia and had a Norwegian wife), and so was the US with those immigration quotas (and they also did forced sterilisations). www.thelocal.se/20070109/6041en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_F._K._G%C3%BCntherYeah, there are threads online on a popular Swedish forum where someone asks 'what race are Finns', and those threads usually have like 600+ posts or so (in a section where the average thread has a two digit amount of posts). So this racial obsession with Finns that was more or less the norm 100 years ago still kind of lives on. Even from the most ancient times our country has been exposed more or less to the immigration of foreign peoples and races. If, for example, one examines the composition and origin of our Swedish nobility one often finds families of German, Baltic, English or Scotch descent. Ever since the Middle Ages a not inconsiderable immigration has been taking place of Danes, Norwegians, Germans, Dutchmen, Englishmen and many other nations, who have settled principally in the towns. But these nearly related peoples have not caused essential alterations in the Swedish race type.
The Finns and the Lapps on the contrary, two races who are considerably different to the Swedes of Nordic type have created a marked difference, for they are to be found in such numbers that they have had a strong influence in certain parts of the country, especially in Norrland and the middle of Sweden.archive.org/details/the-swedish-nation-in-word-and-picture-1921/page/29/mode/1up

Can I shock you? I like gypsies. I’m joking of course. Damn, I have to take you to task for that. You're a good liberal and that's racism against the Roma people.
I mean I've been called out for a calling Zelensky a "gypsy beggar", but I meant "gypsy" in a generic sense.
I remember discussing the Roma people many times over the years on these forums, and the racism on this thread is palpable. Just sayin'.
Try living near any form of traveling people. You'll soon turn racist.
