Some venal rotter has decided to resign after being caught. Former Conservative MP Scott Benton has resigned, setting up a by-election to replace him in his Blackpool South constituency. He was facing a local vote on whether to remove him, following a 35-day Commons ban earlier this year for breaking Parliament's standards rules. It followed a newspaper sting in April last year, after which he was suspended as a Tory MP. Local voters had until 22 April to decide whether to sack him as their MP. But in a statement on Facebook, he has now announced he has officially tendered his resignation, setting up a vote to replace him. It is understood that the Conservatives will start the process to set the by-election on Tuesday, the last day before Parliament's Easter break. This means the by-election would take place on 2 May, when voters in England and Wales go to the polls for local and mayoral elections. Mr Benton took the Blackpool South seat, which had been held by Labour since 1997, at the 2019 election by 3,690 majority. Defending the seat will provide another headache for Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, ahead of a general election expected later this year. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-68658896Jumped before he was pushed. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Newspapers should set up stings for a few hundred more Tory MPs. We'd end up with a new government without needing a general election.

I propose doing this to Labour as well ... - once they are in charge! ( for the simple fact that You have less opportunities to do harmful stuff if You are not part of the government )

But You need media You still can trust. (see the last article by Chris Grey in the Byline Times I posted in the B thread today... ) Once Labour is in power one has to have a VERY CLOSE look at what happens with them. While the Tories are continueing with their Wrecking Ball as if nothing had happened (see latest article in the Guardian on the BBC) there is a possibility of classic Tory donors going through a sort of transition phase of giving money to Labour now. There are some worrying indications, but I won't post them so far as the most important thing is to stop the Tories right now. Owen Jones (I neither like nor hate him) may have a point having left Labour - but he should have waited until AFTER the GE when Labour is forced to show their cards.
