While I like a good horror/thriller, I don’t like them if they are too gory. Very little actual gore in the original. Plenty of dread and a sick creepy atmosphere. I agree, but it is a very disgusting movie. Hooper did it so well that the lack of gore makes it even more disturbing. The part with the grandpa who is practically a corpse trying to crack the woman's skull open with a hammer but can't quite hold the hammer strongly enough to get the job done and getting seemingly aroused sucking the blood off her finger is one of the most disturbing scenes in any movie.
