An early success for director Robert Zemeckis which would help pave the way for him to make "Back to the Future". Many people enjoy the chemistry between stars Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner. No doubt this movie was inspired by the action/adventure of "Raiders of the Lost Ark" though mixed with a romantic comedy angle. There was a sequel with "The Jewel of the Nile", but many consider it an unsuccessful follow-up to this film. Leonard Maltin Movie Guide Review: Romancing the Stone (1984) - 3 out of 4 stars"Very likable high-adventure hokum about mousy writer of romantic fiction who finds herself up to neck in trouble in Colombia, with only a feisty American soldier-of-fortune as her ally. Silly story never stops moving--with some terrific action and stunts--but it's Turner's enormously appealing performance that really makes the film worthwhile. Sequel: THE JEWEL OF THE NILE. Panavision."

Why do you keep making these anniversary threads?
Who cares if a movie is decades old.

Quite entertaining. It’s a shame that the writer Diane Thomas only had this to her credit before her untimely death.
