Any fans of this classic western? It has grown into one of the best films for director Howard Hawks and stars John Wayne, Dean Martin, and Ricky Nelson. The movie has gotten a lot of praise for its story, characters, and action. Leonard Maltin Movie Guide Review: Rio Bravo (1959) - 3.5 out of 4 stars "Sheriff Wayne tries to prevent a killer with connections from escaping from the town jail, with only a drunken Dino, leggy Angie, gimpy Brennan, and lockjawed Ricky to help him. Quintessential Hawks Western, patronized by reviewers at the time of its release, is now regarded as an American classic; overlong, but great fun. Written by Leigh Brackett and Jules Furthman. Followed by EL DORADO; sort of remade as ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13."

Any fans of this classic western?
Love it! My favorite Wayne movie and my second favorite Hawks. (Wayne's hat is also my favorite movie hat.)

I liked it fine. But it was never one of my favorite John Wayne westerns or even among my favorite films directed by Howard Hawks. For me, it kind of overstays its welcome and the conversations go on too long because they think it's funny. I liked El Dorado much better. Both are better than Rio Lobo though.

I got a great El Dorado trivia question for you. Remember this scene showing the death of Milt? That scene is a carbon copy of an earlier Hawks movie where one character puts a couple of bullets into another character to force him to run into his own prepared ambush. What was the movie?

Isapop was it The Big Sleep? (I didn’t cheat, just a guess)

Isapop was it The Big Sleep? (I didn’t cheat, just a guess) Then it's a damn fine guess because you're right! At the film's climax Marlowe brings about the death of Eddie Mars exactly in the manner that Thornton does to Milt.

Well it's good. It's basically the dune of westerns.

One of my late father's favourite films. Will happily sit through any Wayne movie as it reminds me of Dad.
