BYD sold over 360,000 Seagull EV models in under a year as its cheapest electric car

An EV for under $10,000? After selling nearly 35,000 Seagull models in March, cumulative sales of BYD’s cheapest electric car topped 360,000. And that’s in less than 12 months since it launched.
BYD sells over 360,000 units of its cheapest electric car
 BYD launched the Seagull on April 26, 2023. It was initially available in three trims, starting at $10,200 (RMB 73,800), its cheapest electric car. The base model featured 190 miles (305 km) CLTC range, while the long-range top trim features over 250 miles (405 km) range. After selling over 280,000 Seagull models last year, topping the popular Dolphin and Atto 3, BYD revealed an even lower-priced version last month. BYD revealed the new Seagull EV Honor Edition with a “shocking price starting from 69,800 yuan,” or about $9,700 USD.

I love tiny vehicles.........and can still squeeze into them.
But for decades I've been complaining about not being able to have access to them.
There's even a new Toyota pick-up they're offering for $10-15,000 .......but it ain't coming here ![[shrug]](http://storage.proboards.com/6870873/images/GNdzQKpfkkHBBwUPdCiE.gif)
The major reason we all see more Hyundais/Kias around these days is because they offer the cheapest entry price for new.
Honda and Toyota are missing that opportunity

I love tiny vehicles.........and can still squeeze into them.
But for decades I've been complaining about not being able to have access to them.
There's even a new Toyota pick-up they're offering for $10-15,000 .......but it ain't coming here
The major reason we all see more Hyundais/Kias around these days is because they offer the cheapest entry price for new.

My VW Jetta had the coolest seat adjustment which would let you tilt the base.
It's very odd now..........cuz I'm having to duck my head as I'm getting into newer cars/SUVs because of the angle of the windshields. I'm fine once I'm in, though.

Yeah I'm fine with most modern cars. Funny story. When I was shopping at the Jeep dealership I saw one of those Fiats (since Fiat owns Jeep now), and just for kicks tried to get in. I gave up about half way through. |

oh, Mikey! Don't do that. Jeep is owned by a foreign company with about as bad a reputation as JEEP has had for years. ;)
Don't you ever tune into Scotty Kilmer on youtube? Retired mechanic that talks about most vehicles sold in the US and their quality.
Aside from smaller SUVs, the now discontinued Honda Fit would be about the only smaller vehicles I'd suggest for you and your knees. It has a very high ceiling and wide doors.

I don't see this selling well whatsoever in the states. Americans want huge trucks and SUVs. Even when sedans were selling huge numbers, Americans still stayed away from the extremely smaller cars like this.

Gas prices and initial MSRP play into that.
SUVs are still the most popular to buy........but give it a little more time with Bidenomics

heheheh My Uncle Bob was big Jeep guy.......... but he was careful to always trade them in before the Warranty was up

Heh. No, no leaks. I think that was a 90's issue. It was actually a load of fun to drive on snow covered narrow mountain roads that one time I got detoured off the PA turnpike. I only got it because it was an insane deal (last of the previous year's model on the lot) and it has a 6 cylinder engine. |

No, the wife's coworker bought a new one within the last 4 years and had issues, as well as water leaking in, from the start.
