A staggering achievement, Doghouse6 ! I could only ID about a quarter of them. No need for a question mark after Bert Lahr. That HAS to be him.

I don't know who told you I was staggering when I did that, but it's true. Beginning it in the wee hours, I started to get sleepy partway through and even nodded off a couple times when closing my eyes while trying to recall a name. The "?" wasn't for Bert, it was for the woman next to him. All the ones I couldn't ID are represented by "?" in their places. Maybe I should have waited for the cold light of day. I might have figured a better way to do it. But t'was fun. Thanks for that as well.

Doghouse6Myself got around 1/3 of them. What bites me is that I didn't recognize Harry James and Tommy Dorsey since I've listen to many recording of them and ought to know what they look like. Row 3 middle, I always mix up James Craig and John Carroll, I guessed the wrong one. The cake looks awfully small to feed that many stars. LOL

Row 3 middle, I always mix up James Craig and John Carroll, I guessed the wrong one. The cake looks awfully small to feed that many stars. LOL Not intended as disrespect for their abilities, as both were capable players with their own measures of screen presence, Craig and Carroll nevertheless seemed functionally interchangeable: second-tier Gable stand-ins while The King was away. If making a distinction between them, I'd say Craig leaned more in the direction of the Gable insouciance, while Carroll tended to emphasize the brashness. Under all that fancy frosting, the "cake" was probably cardboard anyway.
