I think differently. Once you give up the idea of critical thinking, and subscribe to something for which there is no empirical evidence, you are under the control of whoever is in charge of the religion you subscribe to. And this isn't limited to Christianity, it applies to all religions. I don't just reject Christianity, I reject all religions. I follow the science. And science is constantly learning more about the way the world works. I am fact-based, not faith-based. I was miserable as a believer, constantly worried that I would go to Hell for one tiny infraction. And I was a kid. Now, I'm no 'happier', given the state of the world - it's a mess - but I no longer think I might be going to Hell for eternity. I just try to make this world, the here and now, a little bit better to the extent I can. Lessen the suffering of sentient beings. A fairly simple idea.
Seems like a pretty blinkered state of affairs.
Good luck making things better, Sisyphus
Do you do anything that lessens the suffering of sentient beings? Because I do, and it makes a difference to that person or animal. Are you familiar with the starfish story? I think not. Google it.

I'm an impartial observer for the most part. In my experience, most people are their own worst enemies.
I've lent a few people a hand over the years...... usually doesn't accomplish much. We've fostered a few dogs with much better results.
Your earlier post just reminded me of Bill Burr talking about letting his religion go........and then the audience loudly and gleefully applauding? I've got no problem with anyone choosing to believe whatever they want...... but it made me wonder WHAT are they applauding? Especially if he hasn't found something to replace it with? Know what I mean?

That's one hell of a good joke. It was really burning to be said. Calm down next time.

Well, here is something to replace it with: www.thestarfishchange.org/starfish-taleJust FYI, I volunteer with a cat rescue organization, plus in conjunction with the veterinary clinic in town, I bottle-feed baby kittens that are found abandoned, usually in a dumpster, until they are eating solid food and are old enough to be adopted. Right now I have one that I feed every three hours, throughout the night also. The first week is rough, lots of sleep deprivation. But if that little one survives and can go to a loving home, I've made a difference to that one. And I donate warm clothing during the winter months to those in need. Good for you, fostering dogs. All of my companion animals are rescued, including a little goat that almost died of enterotoxemia. He is a year old now, and happy and healthy.

Kudos to people like you and merh who have that ability to be ever the optimists
I tend to focus too much on how often it IS people who are the major source of the problems. Those stray cats & dogs being just one example.
Whatever you find rewarding in life, I say go for it.

Whatever you find rewarding in life, I say go for it. I hear that. But I can't fix the people, generally. I have to focus on the innocent victims that I can help. I'd love to find out the address of the people that own the dumpster that this little one was found in. But they are probably way beyond change.

Signs, signs, everywhere signs, blocking up the scenery, breaking my mind, do this, don't do that, can't you read the signs?
