Michael Rennie was ill the Day the Earth Stood Still But he told us where we stand
And Flash Gordon was there in silver underwear Claude Rains was The Invisible Man
Then something went wrong for Fay Wray and King Kong They got caught in a celluloid jam Then at a deadly pace It Came From Outer Space And this is how the message ran...

The Day the Earth Stood Sill Planet of the Apes THX1138 Westworld Close Encounters of the Third Kind Alien Back to the Future Part III Men in Black Galaxy Quest War of the Worlds Ad Astra I was going down the list and seeing pretty much obvious picks until I saw that you picked the pathetic version of War of the Worlds. You will go into History as the only person who ever liked the Tom Cruise War of Worlds instead of the 1953 classic. It will be in your obituary some day, unless you live past the time of the end of civilization and the end of news reporting, and have no obituary.

The OP asked for a list, I made one.

Off the top of my head, without thinking too much about it:
Blade Runner Alien Aliens Back to the Future Outland (1981, with Sean Connery – “High Noon” transposed to the moons of Jupiter) The first Star Wars trilogy Dune and Dune 2 Blade Runner 2049
I am probably forgetting a lot of older or less blockbustery movies.

Didn't they do that in some British tv series? You may be thinking of Star Trek's "Catspaw"
Although, like their politics fans, there is no shortage of big pussies in British Sci-Fi.

Trancers from 1984. It's a B movie made by Charles Band. I love it and watch it several times a year. The sequel is also really good.
