I have no idea how this appeared on my you tube while I was watching old Kraft Suspense Theater shows, but I thought I would share it.

This documentary is pretty good and entertaining. It’s narrated by the great Alexander Scourby.
It is very pro-FDR, but does summarize the state of the American zeitgeist at the beginning of the Depression. Talk about reminiscing.

That’s how you didn’t become the first person in your community to be shipped out to gulag. It didn’t matter if you were counter revolutionary or a loyal party member. The point of Stalinism was to terrorize the masses into abject fear and inertia. |

Did Tail Gunner Joe realize that it wasn't illegal to be a Communist in 1936 (or 1952 for that matter). A lot of people though the Great Depression was the death knell for Capitalism. And the horrors of the Bolsheviks hadn't really been made public yet.
