Why is this war/conflict whatever you want to call it taking so long? The Gaza strip and Palestinian settlements aren't that big. I would think that a full war effort against Hamas terrorists shouldn't take years, right? Or am I just being naive?

Israel has not yet entered Rafah which is the last Hamas stronghold due to the refugees there.

Or am I just being naive? apnews has many great articles on it Rafah is the final stronghold that needs to be taken. But Ramadan and then Passover back-to-back delayed that assault. In theory, if there is no 40 day ceasefire as is being suggested, Israel can go in and end this fairly quickly by flattening the city.

Sorta goes against the narrative that Israel is just killing indiscriminately, huh?

If I had the ability, I'd give the Palestinians Canada and call it good. But then there would just be an argument about why the Israelis can't have Canada instead. No one outside Israel and Palestine has an answer for the troubles between them.

Hamas keeps hiding in their tunnels/schools/hospitals/daycares which makes for slow going. The last 2 Hamas battalions are in Rafah and once those battalions are wiped out the war will end and the next war will begin: Who is the overseer of Gaza? Should new elections be held? Should the UN take command? Should we listen to Ripley? thekindercarebear

I know your heart is in the right place.........but
1. They don't want land anywhere but there and
2. They support the total destruction of Israel

Nobody wants them - Egypt, Syria, etc. Even less Canada... LMAO!

Did I ask what Canada wants? They hog all the good chips there so fuck them. Palestinians get Canada and Americans get the All Dressed and Ketchup chips. And as AFAIC, the United States can cut off foreign aid to Egypt and Jordan. ESPECIALLY if we end up taking Palestinian refugees, which I'm not against. At the same time though, I doubt they want to come here and would rather be in a neighboring country. We're in the middle of a global refugee crises, why do those countries get deny war refugees from a bordering country when the rest of us open our doors? And we send them foreign aid? No.

I'm aware. This is actually a holy war that goes back to Abraham and Ishmael. That's why I said only they will ever work this out.

Period.

While Israel is making an unprecedented effort to limit the technically non-combatants' deaths, it is only a small part of it IMO.
The real reasons in no particular order: Israeli government doesn't seem to have a plan/endgame. Much pressure from abroad. Much internal pressure.
There is a tiny chance that Netanyahu or/and someone among the IDF brass with a spot of integrity are trying to use this opportunity to clear out some other viper nests (Hezbollah or even Iran). But I doubt it.
