Yeehaa... I guess... not sure why this story made all the news headlines today, but it did.
Good job they changed the rules, eh?
I don't know whether this makes me a bad person, but I would have loved to have seen this vote go the other way, given the sanctimonious virtue-signalling bleatings of the likes of Stephen Fry, Sting and others who vowed to resign if the vote to include women didn't pass. These privileged old men have been members for years, even decades, perfectly aware that they were members of a men-only club but happy to overlook this in favour of the opportunity to rub shoulders with the creme of the elite British establishment, yet as soon as they got outed by The Guardian, off they go, doing their damage limitation exercise. It's embarrassing.
Still, the vote went their way, so they get the best of both worlds: they can continue to rub shoulders with the creme of the elite British establishment while having showcased their strong feminist principles, so all is right with the world! It's nice to have your cake and eat it, isn't it?

Girls are icky. Anyway, an all-male actor club? I'm sure they don't want any women stopping the gay sex parties.

Actually, who am I kidding! These places are quite innocuous, I'm sure. Don't you have men-only clubs your side of the pond? I'm pretty sure I heard that most of the Ivy League clubs (Harvard club, Yale club, etc.) are men only. The only difference is that our media and luvvie slebs get into a hand-wringing panties-in-a-bunch frenzy over our men-only clubs, whereas yours don't seem that bothered about them.
--
(Edit): I should check before I shoot my mouth off! I see the Harvard club started admitting women members in 1971, and Yale have probably done the same. My question still stands, though.

The Garrick Club is a private members' club in London, founded in 1831. It is one of the oldest members' clubs in the world. Its 1,500 members include at least 160 senior legal professionals and members of the judiciary including King's Counsel (KCs), Supreme Court and Court of Appeals judges, at least 10 serving members of parliament (MPs) and dozens of members of the House of Lords, many heads of public institutions alongside many actors, members of the arts, and businessmen.

And they all went to those all-boys schools. I've read Evelyn Waugh.

Anyway, to derail your one track mind, the issue seems to be more about influence through selective social interactions rather than spunk driven fuck gatherings for wayward toffs.

Not that the vote to admit women members will change any of that, mind you! Membership selection into this exclusive network of influence through selective social interactions will still be based on the convoluted multi-stage invitation-only process that it has always been, with plenty of opportunity to blackball any riff-raff and undesirables who apply to join.

Well, that is the end to an old song.
No one can call me prejudiced, but it is pretty much the thin edge of the wedge. Now that they have admitted women, how long before the floodgates open and the Garrick start accepting blacks and Jews ?

I like their salmon and cucumber tie. This one belonged to Roger Moore. Sold for over £4k in October.

Sold for over £4k in October. To somebody who is just about managing to weather the cost of living crisis, I assume!
