Remember the comp album, think Stiff put it out over here. They bought a few bands over as well including Rachel Sweet. Yep, it was on Stiff Records. The Bizarros also appear on that comp. Yeah, after their first wave of success, Stiff went looking for another "scene" and thought that may have been it, but it failed dismally. Not to say they were bad particularly just that they were fine for a one off "Nuggets" type collection but most of the bands didn't have enough good material to be album successes. Devo the exception of course.

Devo the exception of course. Agree on Devo being the exception. The Waitresses might have been something bigger had they stuck around longer. Wasn't Tomorrow Wonderful? is a spiffy debut album that yielded the hit single, "I Know What Boys Like". The deadpan female vocals and sometimes poppy, sometimes ska-ish, sometimes dissonant music made for an interesting listen.

Ha, remember Peel playing this and calling them "cheeky".
