Black Eyed Susan on Friday and Preakness on Saturday. I used to make the trips to Baltimore to work the Preakness, for about 15 years I guess, until about 5 years ago. It was the year that there were riots against cops, and Pimlico wanted us mutuel workers to park our cars at the Police training parking lot next to the slums. Yeah, right. What fool was going to park his car there?
Why is it "black eyed Susan"? Isn't that politically incorrect? I mean, "black eyed Susan" means spouse abuse or something, or abuse. Not cool, unless Susan is a black eyed beauty to begin with.

BLACK EYED SUSAN: May 17, 2024, Friday, 13th Race Pimlico 1 1/8 mile Grade 2 for 3 year old fillies.

This one was well beaten in Grade 1 and 2 lately, but won a grade 3, making her the only graded stakes winner in the field, and should be a big favorite.
4. CALL ANOTHER PLAY 12-1 Michael Trombetta-4 wins in 9 starts, another to likely be worn out. Has a three race win streak.
5. GUN SONG 12-1 Mark Henning 2 wins in 5 stars, with 1 second, 1 third, and ran 4th in a Grade 2 in Florida. Henning is an old timer that we haven't heard much from lately.
6. WHOCOULDASKFORMORE 7-2 Claude McGaughey III Shug still the greatest trainer alive, thought his one has only 1 win in five starts. Ran 4th in a graded stakes in New York's Aqueduct track.
7. CORPOSO-Peter Eurton-Lightly raced, with one win in 3 starts. Most recently ran 3rd in a grade 2 in California.
8. RECHARGE 6-1 Steve Asmussen-3 wins in 4 starts, with the only off the board a 5th in most recent race, a Grade 2.

PREAKNESS-May 18, 2024, 13th race Pimlico 1 3/16 mile Grade 1 for 3 year olds
1. MUGATU 20-1 Jeff Engler-12 lifetime starts, probably too many for a 3 year old in May. Only one win. 5th in the Keeneland Bluegrass, a premiere race. Looks to tri for a tri or superfecta filler.
2. UNCLE HEAVY 20-1 Robert Reid Jr.-3 wins in 5 starts, including a grade 3 win in New York. Been on softer surfaces. Should be fit.
3. CATCHING FREEDOM 9-2 Brad Cox-Hot trainer of the past five years or so. 3 wins in 6 starts. 4th in the Kentucky Derby.
